Project Spotlight: How Interactive LED Technology Is Transforming Retail Experiences

Retail spaces are no longer just places to browse products, they’re destinations designed to engage, inspire and create memorable experiences.

As brands look for new ways to connect with customers, interactive LED technology is transforming how physical stores encourage participation. Rather than simply displaying content, today’s digital environments invite visitors to become part of the experience.

One example is our work with Under Armour Liverpool, where we helped deliver Europe’s first touch-sensitive LED gaming floor, creating an engaging in-store activation centred around movement, performance and play.

Bringing Performance to the Shop Floor

The installation combined a 2.4mm touch-sensitive LED floor with a 1.9mm LED display wall, creating an immersive digital environment that reflected Under Armour’s performance-driven identity.

Instead of traditional retail displays, visitors were encouraged to step directly into the experience through the Total Footwork Game, an interactive challenge designed to test agility, coordination and reaction speed.

The result was a retail space that encouraged customers to engage with the brand rather than simply observe it.

Designing for Engagement and Safety

Creating an interactive experience within a busy retail environment requires careful planning.

Both gameplay modes, Fast Track and Power Step, were designed to keep participants within a defined area while delivering fast-paced, energetic challenges. Short 30-second sessions maintained excitement while ensuring the experience remained accessible, intuitive and suitable for all visitors.

By balancing interactivity with practical operational requirements, the installation demonstrated how digital technology can enhance customer engagement without disrupting the wider retail environment.

Technology That Supports the Experience

Interactive LED installations rely on more than impressive visuals.

Touch-sensitive flooring, responsive content, low-latency processing and carefully coordinated display technology all work together to create an experience that feels seamless for the user.

Combined with dynamic animations, countdown effects and immersive visual content, the technology helped transform the store into an environment that reflected the energy and innovation of the Under Armour brand.

The Future of Experiential Retail

As physical retail continues to evolve, brands are increasingly looking beyond traditional digital signage towards experiences that encourage participation and leave a lasting impression.

Interactive LED technology allows retailers to create environments that entertain, educate and inspire customers while strengthening brand engagement.

Projects like Under Armour Liverpool demonstrate how digital display technology can move beyond communication and become an active part of the customer journey.

At Bauer Digital, we work with organisations to deliver LED solutions that combine technical precision with memorable experiences, helping brands transform spaces into destinations.
